How we rank
TopRated KC is an independent editorial guide. Here is exactly how our rankings are built — and the lines we won't cross.
Quick answer: We gather publicly available ratings for Kansas City businesses from Google, Yelp and Facebook, record each number with the date we observed it, and combine them into a 0–100 TopRated Score using the weighted signals below. The score is our editorial opinion formed from public information — not a statement of fact about any business.
The signals we weigh

| Reputation & ratings | 35% | Aggregate of publicly available ratings across Google, Yelp and Facebook, weighted by review volume and recency. Higher volume + consistent scores rank higher than a perfect score from a handful of reviews. |
| Consistency across sources | 20% | Whether a business is well-regarded everywhere it appears, not just on one platform. Big gaps between platforms lower the score. |
| Track record & longevity | 15% | Years in business and sustained service in the Kansas City metro. Established operators with a durable reputation are favored. |
| Responsiveness & service | 15% | Evidence of responsive, professional service — how the business handles enquiries, complaints and follow-through. |
| Credentials & trust signals | 10% | Licensing, insurance, certifications, accreditations and relevant professional memberships where applicable to the category. |
| Local commitment | 5% | Genuine Kansas City presence and community involvement. We favor companies that actually serve the metro. |
Methodology v1.0, updated Jun 11, 2026. When we only have data for some signals (e.g. a brand-new category), we compute the score over the signals we have and say so on the page.
Our rules
- We never sell a higher ranking. Sponsored placements are always labeled and sit outside the ranked list.
- We never invent ratings, review counts or quotes. Every third-party number is shown with its source and the date we observed it, and links out so you can verify it.
- Our TopRated Score is our own editorial opinion, formed from public information. It is not a statement of fact about any business.
- Businesses cannot pay to be added or removed from a ranked list. They can claim and correct their listing for free.
- We re-review categories periodically; rankings can and do change.
About the ratings we show
Star ratings and review counts displayed on this site belong to the platforms they're labeled with. We show them as cited facts — with their source and the date we observed them — and link out so you can verify the current numbers yourself. We do not represent third-party ratings as our own, and we do not attach third-party ratings to our search-result snippets.
